Organic shapes are moving into the spotlight as homeowners look for interiors that feel warmer, calmer and more relaxed.
That’s according to the experts at British lighting brand Glow Lighting, who say lighting is one of the easiest ways to introduce this softer approach into the home. Rather than relying on rigid lines and fittings, homeowners can opt for pendants and wall lights with curved shades, frilled edges, fluted glass and gentle colour to create spaces that feel more inviting.
Emily Butterill, Founder and Creative Director of Glow Lighting, said: “We are seeing a real move away from hard, stiff lines in the home. People still want beautiful, considered interiors, but they also want their homes to feel comfortable and lived in.
“Organic shapes are a wonderful way to achieve that because they naturally soften a room. A curved pendant, a frilled glass shade or a ribbed finish can stop a space feeling too flat, while still looking elegant and grown up.”
Glow Lighting’s pendants are all designed in-house by Emily and made to order in the UK.
The collection includes the Frieda Frilled Pendant which, with its soft frilled edge brings a playful, decorative quality to the classic glass pendant. The Humphrey Fluted Ribbed and Mary Ribbed Glass Pendants offer a more understated interpretation, using texture and vertical ribbing to create movement and depth.
Colour is also playing a key role in the shift. Instead of purely functional lighting, homeowners are increasingly treating pendants as decorative objects in their own right and Glow Lighting’s colourful pendants can be used to bring personality into kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and living spaces.
Emily said: “Most rooms are already full of straight edges, so lighting gives you a chance to introduce contrast. A rounded glass or beautifully coloured pendant can balance all those harder architectural lines and make the whole space feel more harmonious.
“My advice is to think of lighting as the jewellery of the room. It should be practical, of course, but it should also bring shape, texture and personality. The right light can completely change how a space feels.”
Glow Lighting’s range of statement lighting is available now, with prices starting at £245.
