Clever planning is the key to any successful bathroom renovation.
That’s according to interior designer Fiona Duke, who has been working with R2 Bathrooms to show homeowners how they can transform their tired family bathroom into a statement space using R2 Bathroom’s versatile Platform vanity unit.
Before searching for a new suite, picking out the tiles and selecting those all-important finishing touches, Fiona urges homeowners to take a step back and see what’s possible before getting too far down the line.
She said: “When redesigning bathrooms, the biggest challenges are often layout and plumbing.
“Your layout is key to making sure that you’ll get everything you want into your bathroom.”
Fiona has been working with R2 Bathrooms to create a scheme to show homeowners how to build a practical yet stylish family bathroom around R2 Bathrooms’ range of Platform vanity units.
Available in both floor-standing and wall-mounted styles, Platform blends modern simplicity with practicality, offering a choice of handle finishes, ceramic or countertop basins, and open storage configurations for versatile, personalised layouts.
The Platform range provided a flexible, stylish centrepiece for Fiona’s design.
She said: “The Platform range was great to choose from because we had so many options for finishes and worktops. I chose the fluted wood because I loved the way that brought the natural wood element into the room. And fluted is extremely current and brings in another element of texture into what can be quite a stark, flat space.
“A singular vanity unit in this range offers a wonderful amount of storage, so putting two side by side means I’ve quickly and easily doubled that.”
To complete the look, Fiona used two Fluted Round Countertop Basins, the Platform 500 Bathroom Vanity Worktop, Fuse Concealed Dual Function Shower System with Shower Head and Handset in Gunmetal, Fuse Tall Basin Mixer Taps in Gunmetal and the Debut Wall Hung Toilet – all from R2 Bathrooms.
Vintage-inspired porcelain tiles were used to create a statement floor, and Fiona echoed the fluted elements of the vanity unit in her wall tile choice. Elsewhere, Fiona softened the room using textures including a rattan mirror, baskets and a pouffe.
Fiona added: “Surfaces in a bathroom have to be easily cleaned which I think can make it feel quite cold. So if you introduce interesting materials such as rattan or other textiles into the room, then it just makes the room welcoming and more inviting or cosy.”
The Platform collection is available now from R2 Bathrooms, with prices starting from £493.
