Maximalist trend moves into the bathroom

Homeowners are embracing maximalism in the bathroom for the first time according to new research from bathroom and heating specialists Renaissance at Home.

Leveraging data from Pinterest, a platform renowned for its wealth of home decor inspiration, Renaissance at Home has observed a significant uptick in the search for ‘maximalist bathroom’ ideas.

Searches for this term have seen a 10 percent increase this month alone. When broadened to include searches for ‘maximalist’ in general, there’s a surge of 40 percent over the last year.

This data underscores a growing fascination with maximalism, a style characterized by its eclectic mix of patterns, bold colours, and a plethora of textures and decorative elements.

Brian Athey, of bathroom and heating specialists Renaissance at Home, said: “We know homeowners have become bolder in their interior choices, but previously, a lot of homeowners focused on living spaces.

“Now we are seeing this desire to bring maximalism into the bathroom. This shift indicates a move away from the previously popular minimalist aesthetic, suggesting that individuals are now eager to make a statement with their bathrooms, transforming them into a showcase of personal style and creativity.”

Maximalist bathrooms break the mould of traditional bathroom design by incorporating vibrant wallpapers, ornate mirrors, bold colour schemes, and an array of textures and materials.

This approach allows homeowners to create a unique, personalized space that not only serves its functional purpose but also stands as a testament to their individual tastes and design sensibilities.

As this trend continues to grow, it’s clear that the bathroom is no longer just a utilitarian space but a canvas for creative expression, with maximalism leading the charge in redefining its aesthetic possibilities.

Brian added: “Forget clinical classics, create your own private sanctuary with a bathroom that reflects your personality and interests. And with our range of customisable freestanding baths, stamping your own character in the bathroom has never been easier.
