June Trend Update – Go Beige or Go Home
Every now and again we discover something that surprises us in a really good way. And that’s how we were feeling this month when our research showed that the biggest colour trend of the moment is…. Wait for it… beige!
That’s right beige. Old fashioned, slap-it-on-your-woodchip, beige.
So where has this come from and more importantly… why? Well, seems it’s a reaction to the last 18 months.
Wallpaper designer Elizabeth Ockford has a theory we really like: “The world has been really challenging in recent years with extreme leaders, global warming and various health crises – culminating in the global Covid-19 pandemic – and I think what a lot of homeowners are craving is somewhere safe, warm and stable.
“We want somewhere that will protect us from all that nastiness. Hence beige.”
And Porcelain Superstore’s Abbas Youssefi has similar great ideas why the colour has become a firm favourite in the interiors world.
He said: “When it comes to neutrals used throughout the home, the last few years has been dominated by greys. Beige is a natural progression.
“However, unlike grey, it has some seriously warm undertones which a lot of people are craving right now. The world has gone through some strange times over the last year and home has become a sanctuary for many. We are seeing this being reflected in their interior decisions.”
So, we’ve had Classic Blue and Illuminating Yellow, but it looks like the colour of the summer when it comes to interiors is going to be a bit more of a neutral.
Our research showed that Google searches for ‘beige’ within the Home & Garden category have rocketed in 2021.
We pitched the idea to Real Homes and they turned it into a feature which includes Porcelain Superstore and Elizabeth. You can read it here
